What a nice surprise! The lovely Hodgkinsons hotel in Matlock Bath in Derbyshire was our home for two nights this summer. The whole family went on a trip to the Peak District – and this was a true gem of a hotel. The owners, Chris and Zoe, were so nice and friendly, and the atmosphere is cosy and homey.

Original keys! Not often you find these in use nowadays.

Lovely bedrooms. I got a sneak peek into several of them – and they all have a romantic charm.

The restaurant was lovely, small, and the food was delicious. The staff was charming – and the chef had been in Norway during the military service.

And believe it or not – the hotel has it´s own cave in the backyard! Spooky for some, exiting for others!

Matlock Bath has a reputation for being chip-shop and bikers heaven, but we thought the small town had a scruffy charm – well worth a visit, even if you are not on a motorcycle.
