Paulsens Hotel in Lyngdal, Norway

by ceciliemo ~ May 24th, 2013

In the small city of Lyngdal in the south of Norway you find Paulsens Hotell. The place reopened in 2011, after being closed for 40 years. The hotel gives you a feeling of an old, traditional 19th century inn, with a homey atmosphere. Some people say it is like staying in a museum – charming and old style. Why not give it a try if you´re in the area?

Café Herman in Leikanger, Norway

by ceciliemo ~ May 13th, 2013

I love finding hidden gems in Norway – and this is one of them! Café Herman is a must if you are visiting in Leikanger, near Balestand and Sogndal, in the Sognefjord area. It´s off the beaten track, I know, but sometimes it´s nice to drive the extra kilometres, just to experience something new and unexpected. Her you enjoy nice homemade food and the local craft beer, Balder Brygg.

Fredericks Coffee House in Edinburgh

by ceciliemo ~ May 9th, 2013

For foodies like med it´s important to eat well – also on holiday. In April I was in Edinburgh, and after a lot of shopping we found the lovely Fredericks Coffe House in Frederick Street. This was a nice surprise! The café had superb food, nice coffe, and of course a lot of gorgeous cakes. Perfect!

Breckland and Orchard – socalled “posh pop” is a delicious English sparkling soft drink – tastes so fresh and is all natural. Why don´t we have something like this in Norway? And I love the design too..

A visit to Edinburgh Farmers’ Market, Scotland

by ceciliemo ~ April 29th, 2013

A few weeks ago I was in fabulous Edinburgh.

As a foodie I always try to visit food markets. Every Saturday morning there is a farmers market in Castle Terrace. Of course I had to take look at all the nice local produce!

I bought some Scottish farmhouse cheddar from the isle of Mull, oat cakes from the isle of Arran and other nice stuff. Since it is April the variety of fresh products and stalls are limited, but I still loved the market, especially because of the nice location below the Edinburg Castle.

A visit to Østenfor near Moss, Norway

by ceciliemo ~ March 3rd, 2013

Eco-friendly, ethical and colourful redesign – all in one shop? Yes, it´s possible. Go visit Østenfor – a shop situated close to the town of Moss in Norway.

You can read on their Facebook page: “Østenfor is a shop which sells products which communicate hope.” That sentence covers my impression of the shop, too!

They sell wodden toys, jewellery, interior and food from all parts of the world. And most importantly, their own redesign of furniture and clothing.  Made by people who are in rehabilitation. There is also a little café with home-made food and cakes, and delicious coffee.

The owner has managed to create a trendy shop with a good mix of products from their own production and from manufacturers. I recommend a trip out of Oslo for this shop – it´s worth a detour!

And luckily, I met the blogger Revinyl, too. Have a look at her blog here.

Lifestyle cocoa from Berlin – I just couldn´t resist buying it – what a cool package design!

Fresh colors for the kids room.

The shop is full of redesign products.

This bag is made out of safety belts from a car. Nice!IMG_0048

You will also find lifestyle products like limonade from France and Sweden – mixed with real home-made musli. Nice combination!IMG_0028

Knitted products from another rehabilitation company, Mosaikk in Horten.

Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven, Netherlands

by ceciliemo ~ January 27th, 2013

After reading the dutch blog Yvestown Blog I became fascinated by Eindhoven and Piet Hein Eek, and decided to visit the place next time I´m in the country. This quote from the blog had me convinced:

“Don’t just travel to Amsterdam as Amsterdam doesn’t really reflect The Netherlands, it’s just another European capital. Travel south instead, explore ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Breda, Eindhoven and most definitely Maastricht. It will tell you so much more about the Dutch and the Dutch way of living. Southern Dutch people are lovers of the good life, quality goods, fine food and most of all they are very welcoming”.

In an earlier Philips factory building in Eindhoven the dutch designer Piet Hein Eek has now his factory, office, shop, showrooms and this cool restaurant.

Hotell Addict – one of my favourite hotel blogs

by ceciliemo ~ January 9th, 2013

Are you looking for nice hotels with the little extra – visit the Swedish blog Hotell Addict. It is written by Charlotte Raboff in Swedish, but the links are international, so if you are English speaking you will still enjoy the hotel recommendations.

One of the features I recommend on her blog is the section where she has interviewed people about their favourite hotel. Be sure to pick up some good tips here!
